Herbs to Have on Hand: Pleurisy Root
Pleurisy root is a herb that has been used a long time for various lung problems. It is best, in my opinion, when it is combined with elecampane. It is hard to find though.
So, what does this great stuff do?
Pleurisy root has long been used for lung problems. It acts as :
- Expectorant
- Anti-inflammatory (of the bronchi)
- Relieves the pain of pleurisy
- Makes it easier to breathe
- Builds the system
This is the herb you want for respiratory infections that include bronchitis and even pneumonia. I prefer to dose this in tincture form, two dropperfuls four times per day for an adult, one for a child over 6, 1/2 for a child under 6.
I used this with Matt (now 16) when he was about 5. I did not know what he had, only that he was very sick and having difficulty breathing. After two days on the Pleurisy root /elecampane mixture he was breathing more easily. As long as symptoms don’t worsen, try to give the herbs two to three days to work. They works more thoroughly than conventional meds but much more slowly.
Trilight Herbs has a good micture called Lungs Plus. This is what we use but you can only get it online. Most health food and nutritional stores carry the pleurisy root which works really well, and is better than waiting three or four days for the lungs plus to come in the mail.
