If You are an Ice Junkie Raise Your Hand
Me! Me!
I love to chop ice, I know it is bad for me. I have broken teeth in the process. I can’t help myself. Nothing is more satisfying to me than a quart Mason jar of ice water. I drink the water just as fast as I can so I can get to the good stuff. I drink over two gallons of water a day and I am never with out a quart jar in my hand…all because of my ice addiction.
In the winter I sit, shivering under a blanket…and chew ice.
It even has a name. Ice craving is known as pagophagia. Does that make me a pagophagic?
Did you know that craving ice is a sign of anemia? It is. In fact it is often one of the first signs. For some odd reason the body signals it’s need for more iron by sending out that insatiable desire to crunch ice. Researchers found that ice has a new and better taste to some people who are iron deficient.
Last year I was working out in the gym 6 days a week, 2 hours a day. I was taking iron supplements. My craving for ice went away. It didn’t taste as good and I did not get the crunching satisfaction that I had gotten previously.
I missed it so much I stopped taking the iron! Pitiful, I know. :D
Anyway. If you crave ice then you need to go get your iron tested or you can head for the health food store and ask them for Hema-Plex. It is the best iron supplement out there, guaranteed to take away any ice craving.
Being anemic is not healthy for your body. If you chew ice you really should deal with your anemia. :)
