What in the Heck is Tahitian Noni Juice?

by Marye Audet on November 13th, 2008

 noni

Sounds like something my babies would have asked for.  “Noni? Mommy, Noni?”

Noni Juice seems to be everywhere, and the cure all for everything.  Everyone is selling it…everyone seems to be talking about miracle cures related to drinking the stuff.  So, is it what it is cracked up to be?

Tahitian Noni Juice is extracted from the Morinda citrifolia, also known as Beach Mulberry.  It is  is native to Southeast Asia but is also grown throughout the Indian subcontinent, Pacific islands, French Polynesia, and the Dominican Republic.  Tahiti is one of the largest growers of this plant.

While Noni fruit has high levels of many vitamins, most of them seem to diminish during processing leaving mainly vitamin C.  It retains only trace amounts of other vitamins and minerals.

It also contains phytochemicals.  These are what are the promising aspect of Noni Juice.  Phytochemicals are micronutrients that feed the body at a cellular level.  The phytochemicals contained in the Noni are also contained in other fruits and vegetables.

Marc took Noni Juice for awhile and there was no real effect positive or negative.  Personally I think it is hype.  That may sound funny coming from me, becasue I am so pro-herbal therapy but the truth is that I like the truth.  If something works then it works and if it doesn’t then let’s not pretend it does.

I am sure to get a million comments from people who use Noni every day with great results… But my personal experience is that there are other herbs and supplements that work better.  And…it tastes not so good.

Yeah, sounds real close to what my little ones would have asked for. My Noni juice was great, though, lol.

Thanks for the heads up, hate wasting my money on something that doesn’t even taste good, much less stand up to hype.
